Tandun Biogas Power Plant

PT. Karya Mas Energi has developed a methane capture and electricity generation project at Tandun, Kampar Region, Riau hosted by Tandun Mill, a 30 ton FFB/hour Palm Oil Mill owned by PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V, a government owned palm oil company. The project was successfully commissioned on November 2012.

The methane gas as by product of the anaerobic digestion is captured, distributed, treated and utilized as a fuel for a 1,025 kW and a 609 kW biogas genset. The generated electricity is distributed to a Palm Kernel Crushing Plant which also owned by PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V. The project reduces signicant amount of diesel fuel which normally used by the KCP Plant as its primary electricity source. Hence reducing production cost and increasing their market competitiveness.

The project also reducing signicant amount of the green house gas emitted from the previous open lagoon system and has listed as a project eligible to obtain Certied Emission Reduction under Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol.
